3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) is a modern 3D printing format developed by the 3MF Consortium including Microsoft, HP, and Autodesk. Unlike STL, 3MF supports full-color printing, multi-material assemblies, and precise geometry without the ambiguities of triangle-only representations.
STL (Stereolithography) is the standard format for 3D printing. Created by 3D Systems in the 1980s, it stores raw triangulated surface geometry without color or texture information. Its simplicity makes it universally compatible with all slicing software and 3D printers, from desktop FDM to industrial SLA machines.
